Available for web, iOS, and Android, our client\u2019s product is a reliable guide for hikers, mountain bikers, skiers, and snowboarders to enhance their outdoor activities. Understanding this, our client wanted to take their existing high-resolution 3d <a href=\"https:\/\/intellias.com\/automotive-navigation\/\">mapping solutions<\/a> to a new level. When they came to Intellias, their solution was confined to the boundaries of 30 mountain resorts, but our client wanted to go beyond 100. They also planned to offer global map data coverage that would bring more opportunities and freedom to users.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge of this project lay in completely redesigning the 3D map data processing pipeline. Our client needed to automate and speed up map compilation and rendering to handle ever-increasing data volumes. Lacking in-house expertise in architecture at such a scale, they approached Intellias for architectural consulting and supervision because of our experience delivering complex navigation solutions and mapping services for the <a href=\"https:\/\/intellias.com\/gis-services\/\">location-based solutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 aria-level=\"2\">Intellias\u00a0developed the solution<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:40,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We began\u00a0from\u00a0our\u00a0client\u2019s\u00a0vision of the new\u00a0data\u00a0processing pipeline\u00a0for\u00a0their outdoor adventure map platform. It was crucial for\u00a0us\u00a0to\u00a0get\u00a0a thorough view of present and future data\u00a0processing and compilation needs. Over a series of brainstorming workshops on <a href=\"https:\/\/intellias.com\/gis-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mapping software solutions<\/a>, our architects looked\u00a0deeply\u00a0into questions of versioning, tile\u00a0normalization, pipeline orchestration, Amazon\u00a0Web\u00a0Services\u00a0setup, performance capabilities,\u00a0and constraints.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>W<\/b><b>e\u00a0<\/b><b>arrived at\u00a0<\/b><b>the following<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>conclusions<\/b><b>:<\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The scale-up\u00a0would\u00a0require\u00a0a\u00a0Python-driven pipeline orchestration engine aligned with the\u00a0database availability group\u00a0concept<\/li>\n<li>For pipeline consistency and streamlined communication among components, a MetaStore layer based on Cassandra NoSQL DB and RabbitMQ (respectively) would be best<\/li>\n<li>Docker\u00a0would\u00a0be\u00a0ideal\u00a0for containerizing computational tasks<\/li>\n<li>Amazon Web Services \u2013 S3, EC2, EMR cluster with Spark, and RDS \u2013\u00a0were\u00a0best suited for cloud computing<\/li>\n<li>Use of\u00a0the\u00a0MetaStore\u00a0layer and AWS S3 buckets also saw a lot of discussion in the context of the design of the data\u00a0delivery router service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"we-achieved-great-results-together\">We achieved great results together<\/h2>\n<p>Intellias\u00a0proposed a set of architectural decisions\u00a0for\u00a0the spatial data\u00a0processing pipeline and the separation of pre-processed <a href=\"https:\/\/intellias.com\/gis-services\/\">GIS operations<\/a>. We also\u00a0offered\u00a0recommendations on the optimal technology stack. The technologies we considered\u00a0are\u00a0popular and\u00a0have been\u00a0widely used\u00a0to meet similar\u00a0challenges.<span
